Description:
This short course is designed to orient animal cruelty investigators, private individuals, Equine Rescue League members, humane officers and REINS volunteers on acceptable management practices for typical horse operations. Special emphasis is placed on the management andn treatment of the debilitated horse and recognition of grossly inadequate feeding programs, health practices, facilities, and management techniques. Short Course topics include: • Officer training in investigation. • Provides protocol for court preparation. • Hands-on experience in equine evaluation techniques. • Explores stable management techniques. • Introduces equine psychology/restraint. • Allows time to discuss home-county investigations. Day one will feature a classroom seminar on investigative techniques that will include information on the laws of search and seizure, report writing, interview techniques, and collection of evidence. Days two and three will focus on equine anatomy, identification, body condition scoring technique, feeding and management. The morning session will be held in the classroom.
