Topic Info: Weaning the foal is an important milestone for the young growing horse. Preparing the foal prior to weaning and then ensuring that the weaning process poses as little stress as possible, will provide the young horse a definite advantage from both a health and psychological standpoint. This presentation will discuss creep feeding the foal, compare weaning systems and conclude with nutritional management of the weanling. The presentation will be given by Dr. Christine Skelly, who has served as the Equine Extension Specialist at Michigan State University, developing and teaching horse management workshops targeted to horse owners and producers and working with industry leaders to promote the Michigan Horse Industry since 1995.
