Community-wide fire ant programs have been developed in many states. These programs encourage homeowners and community groups to decide what methods of control are right for their situations and use these methods for sustainable or long-term suppression by doing it themselves or together with their neighbors. These cooperative programs have reduced the cost to individual homeowners by allowing them to purchase fire ant bait in bulk and by eliminating their need to purchase other products. Another option is for communities to collectively hire a professional pest control service.
