Why do imported fire ant colonies move when I treat the mound with a pesticide or run over the mound with my lawnmower?

Disturbing mounds may cause mound or colony relocation. "Over-dosing" with some contact insecticides may cause ants to move because these high doses act as repellents. Then, too, sometimes fire ants just move.
