FAQ #1116

Why do imported fire ant colonies move when I treat the mound with a pesticide or run over the mound with my lawnmower?

Disturbing mounds may cause mound or colony relocation. "Over-dosing" with some contact insecticides may cause ants to move because these high doses act as repellents. Avoid any disturbance of the mound before treatment. Then, too, sometimes fire ants just move.
