When can I prune my azalea?

Azaleas are not vigorous growers, and usually do not need much pruning. It is best to wait until after flowering to prune, then only remove small stems from branches with foliage. Severe pruning of stems back to the point where no leaves are present may result in little or no regrowth following pruning.
