If you have ordered bare root seedlings, you should inspect the plants as soon as they arrive for quality and condition. They should be packed in a damp material such as sphagnum moss, peat moss, or wood shavings. If you cannot plant within two to three days, spray the plants with water and store them in the original package in a cool, sheltered place. If planting cannot be done for a long time, find a shaded area and heel the plants in or plant in pots.
