Corn needs to be planted in "blocks" to ensure good pollination. For early-maturing varieties that produce small plants, plant with a row spacing of 30 inches and plants 8 to 9 inches apart in the row. For medium to large plant varieties, use a 36 to 40 inch row spacing with plants 8 to 9 inches apart in the row. Plant at least four rows of the same variety in a block for good pollination and ear fill.
