What causes the vertical part of the sweet corn tassel to fall over, and how do you prevent it?

The vertical part of the sweet corn tassel falls over after the pollen is shed. There is no reason to attempt to prevent this fall-over from happening. The corn has moved on to the next stage of growth, which will culminate on your plate.
