FAQ #1344

Should I get a soil test to determine what types of fertilizer to use on my lawn?

Related resource areas: Gardens, Lawns & Landscapes

Many soils contain adequate levels of nutrients with the exception of nitrogen and in some cases potassium. However, soils used for home lawns are often disturbed during the construction process and nutrient requirements for any individual lawn may vary greatly. The only way to determine the proper fertilizor for your lawn is with a soil test. Contact your local Extension office for procedures for having your soil tested.
