Deadnettle and henbit are winter annuals, which germinate in the fall, grow during the cooler winter months, bloom, set seeds and die in the spring with the onset of warm weather. They can be prevented with a fall pre-emergent herbicide or a post-emergent broadleaf herbicide when the weeds are small, and non-blooming. If not using chemicals, try to keep the weeds mowed to prevent blooming and additional seed set. Contact your local Extension office for herbicide recommendations.
