There is no quick-fix for controlling nimblewill patches in a lawn, but it can be accomplished with the right strategy and persistence. The spread of nimblewill can be slowed by limiting fertilizer applications to the fall of the year and avoiding spring and summer applications when the weed is most actively growing. The brown patches of dormant nimblewill that occur in the winter months can be masked by seeding a turf-type perennial ryegrass into the patches. Another option is to remove the patches with a shovel or sod cutter, and then re-establish the dominant lawn grass by seeding or sodding. Chemical removal of nimblewill can be accomplished with non-selective herbicides and subsequent re-seeding or sodding of the area.
