There is no quick fix for controlling bermudagrass patches in a lawn, but it can be accomplished with the right strategy and persistence. The spread of bermudagrass can be slowed by limiting fertilizer applications to the fall of the year and avoiding spring and summer applications when the bermudagrass is most actively growing. The brown patches of dormant bermudagrass that occur in the winter months can be masked by fall seeding of a turf-type perennial ryegrass into the area. Chemical removal of bermudagrass can be accomplished with both selective and nonselective herbicides requiring repeat applications and reseeding.
