Do lawns really need to be watered?

Related resource areas: Gardens, Lawns & Landscapes

To maintain a top-quality lawn, supplemental irrigation is almost always required during hot, dry periods. Some grasses can enter a state known as summer dormancy. The turf will turn brown and look dead, but will green back up after a few rain events. Exceptions may occur when you have a very immature turf, where the turf has been highly maintained, or when drought is severe.
