FAQ #1430

Should I mow before or after I apply a post-emergent herbicide to my lawn?

Related resource areas: Gardens, Lawns & Landscapes

For this type of herbicide to be most effective, it is important that the material come in contact with the weed. Allowing the weeds to grow for several days after mowing, and before you treat the lawn, will increase the amount of leaf tissue exposed to the herbicide and give better results. After applying the herbicide, you should also wait a day or two before mowing to allow enough time for proper uptake of the chemical.
