Do I need to use a lawn fertilizer containing phosphorous?

Related resource areas: Gardens, Lawns & Landscapes

It is often not necessary to apply phosphorous to established home lawns. Care should be taken to avoid over application of phosphorous. The best way to determine the amount of all nutrients to apply to your home lawn is by soil testing. If soils test high for phosphorous, a phosphorous-free fertilizer should be used.

Contact your local Cooperative Extension office to learn about their soil testing service.
