There are several ways to protect your herds from exposure to neospora such as: 1) purchasing only seronegative females, 2) culling all positive cows and replacing them with negative cows (computer simulations suggest that you can retain infected cows, but not to use any of their daughters as replacement animals for your herd), 3) protecting feed and water sources from fecal contamination by dogs and 4) promptly disposing of aborted fetuses and their placentas. None of these are fool-proof, but the more you can implement the greater your opportunity for success.
