I wish that marigolds did repel bees, but there is no research that proves that theory. Flowers on plants, shrubs and trees will attract bees rather than repel them. Plant items that do not flower in order to keep bees away from your garden.

Some gardeners plant marigolds in their vegetable gardens to repel harmful insects. While the marigolds are an attractive addition to the garden, research studies have concluded they aren't effective in reducing insect damage on vegetable crops.
