FAQ #1783

I am getting ready to renovate my lawn. How much lime will I need?

A soil test is the only way to determine the amount of lime needed for your lawn. Lime (calcium carbonate) has a direct effect on soil pH. Proper soil pH is important for the availability of nutrients for the plant. Soil pH measures the acidity and alkalinity of the soil, with a pH of 7 considered neutral. The optimum pH for your turfgrass will depend on the type of grass you plant. Most turfgrass species require slightly acid soils.

For soil testing information, contact your local Extension office.
