Use an appropriate non-phosphate household detergent and water to remove the mold from the surface. There are several cleaners designed for bathroom surfaces. Extensive mold growth on porous surfaces, such as wallpaper or gypsum wallboard, likely will require replacement of the material rather than cleaning. Mold growth occurs due to a damp environment. The recommended indoor relative humidity level is between 30 and 50%. Use exhaust fans to remove moisture when bathing or showering. Run the bathroom fan during and after the shower or bath to remove the moisture. Air circulation aids in drying surfaces, so keep shower doors or curtains open to aid in drying. Air conditioning and a dehumidifier remove moisture from the air to reduce the humidity. Leave the bathroom door open when leaving the bathroom. Wiping down the shower and tub after use and then taking the towels outside or into another area to dry may help reduce moisture.
