How much fertilizer should I put on my lawn?

Have you taken a soil test? In order to know how much fertilizer you need to put on your lawn you should know the nutrient content of your soil. Contact your local Cooperative Extension office about having a soil test run. Once you get your soil test results, then you can fertilize according to the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and lime recommendations.

The first question is; what are the nutritional requirements of my lawn turf? That includes the fertilizer requirement and the critical pH requirement. When pH is out of range plant roots cannot adsorb nutrients for the soil. You must plan ahead. If soil test shows need for lime to adjust the pH it can take up to six months for the application to be effective.
