Perennials, wildflowers, and shrubs planted near the sidewalk are dying from the salt applied to the roads and sidewalks over the winter. Are there any shrubs or perennials that are more tolerant to that?

The following publication lists trees and shrubs for tough sites, including a column indicating how salt tolerant each plant is:

Some perennials that will tolerate salt include: asters, black-eyed Susan, sedum, salvia, and yarrow for hot sunny sites. For shadier boulevards, try campanula, coral-bells, day lilies, and lady's mantle.
