There really is no such thing as a “diabetic diet.” People with diabetes can eat a variety of foods to suit their personal and cultural food preferences.

The key things for people with diabetes to focus on are: (1) balancing carbohydrate intake throughout the day for improved blood glucose control and (2) eating a healthful, well-balanced diet to promote overall health and reduce risk for health complications.

A registered dietitian (RD) with expertise in diabetes can help people with diabetes set up an individualized eating plan.
