I do not have research to answer to question. But, lactating dairy cows prefer warm water coming off plate coolers. I would expect young calves would also prefer it compared to cold water. Be careful that the calf does not drink large amounts which can lead to "water belly" calves (large, deep body and stunted growth). I would monitor water intake. A 200 pound calf drinks 2 gallons of liquid at 40 degrees and 3.3 gallons over 80 degrees. Water must be available to encourage dry calf starter intake. Some producers mark the pail with a desired water line to monitor water intake (higher water intakes can reflect a fever or summer heat stress).
Only in colder climates have we noticed a growth advantage when temperatures reach freezing.
