FAQ #25401

Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

We are milking three times per day three groups, post-fresh 0-50 days, 50-175 days, and over 175 days. Would we have any production loss in group three if we milked them two times per day? Average production in this group is 72 pounds (high 100 pounds, low 30 pounds).

Our recent data at the University of Illinois and some from other institutions suggest that higher frequency milking in early lactation (the first 21 days) has a carryover effect for the rest of the lactation. So I would expect you to lose very little of the production in the cows milked 3X after 175 days.
