What is the order in which you should add feed to a total mixed ration mixer and the rationale for mixing order?

Related resource areas: Dairy

Check with the manufacturer. The order in which feeds are added to the total mixed ration mixer varies based on the unit. Usually, the most difficult feed is added first (such as hay), then grain, and finally silage.
