FAQ #25678

Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

How should we manage for fresh cow nutrition, higher level of protein and more concentrations of nutrients?

A fresh cow total mixed ration (TMR) would have more long fiber (minimize displaced abomasums), more rumen undegradable protein, and less starch (avoid acidosis and off feed problems) with 10% extra minerals and vitamins. Some people feed the high group TMR and add 3 to 5 pounds of hay to it (mixed in or topdressed).
