Can a mare come into heat eight months after she was bred? Could she still be in foal?

Although it is not the norm, some mares may exhibit behavioral signs of estrus (due to high estrogen levels) during pregnancy. She could still be pregnant. If she is eight months pregnant, she should be showing some signs (distended abdomen) of being heavy in foal. However, the only accurate way to determine if she is still pregnant at this stage of gestation is to have your veterinarian palpate the fetus directly.
