Creating an environment that supports and embraces local entrepreneurs can be a big help in strengthening the long-term survival of these enterprises. An important aspect of that environment is the level of support provided by the community to its entrepreneurs. A quick way to assess how “entrepreneur friendly” a community might be is to administer the “Entrepreneurship Quick Test” developed by the RURPI Center for Rural Entrepreneurship. This valuable product includes a “Community Support Test,” a simple five-item questionnaire that can give you quick feedback on the value and importance a community places on its entrepreneurs. Communities are encouraged to use this tool as a valuable first step, moving to tools that can delve more deeply into the “entrepreneur friendliness” of your community at some future point.
