There are many assets and resources that community leaders can draw upon to support entrepreneurship at the local level. Many of these assets are physical in nature, such as natural resources, scenic amenities, and municipal infrastructure such as roads and utilities. Other assets pertain to the skills, knowledge, and commitment maintained by individuals, organizations, businesses, and institutions in the community. Today’s "entrepreneurial community" must leverage these and other assets and resources that are maintained within the community to be successful. They must also leverage resources and support from outside the community to create an atmosphere that is conducive to entrepreneurship. External assets might include technical, educational, financial, and other support and services maintained by state, regional, and national institutions and organizations. Community leaders—in partnership with existing and potential entrepreneurs—can build vital communities by tapping into a host of assets maintained within the community as well as outside the community.
