Home-based businesses are an often overlooked economic development strategy. Home-based businesses are businesses that operate from one's home or on that property. On average, about one out of every 10 households operates a home-based business. For a town of only 1,000 people, this may mean over $750,000 of dollars being generated for the economy, based on the average gross revenue of $25,000 per business. You can find more information about this opportunity with "Home-Based Businesses: An Economic Development Alternative" from Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service (F-915) at Home-Based Businesses: An Economic Development Alternative.
