When should strip-tillage be used in growing cotton?

Related resource areas: Cotton

In most areas strip-tillage is used to reduce in-row soil compaction. The equipment usually employs a shank that runs beneath the old row loosening the soil while coulters level and smooth the strip for planting. Much of the soil area between the rows is left undisturbed. This is very effective for soils that have hard pans and minimizes residue destruction in a conservation tillage system.
