Most organizations have a certification procedure to qualify to judge their shows. The procedure includes training and testing on the rule book and practice classes. Some associations have an apprentice program where prospective judges work with certified judges to gain experience. Contact the associations you would like to judge for and determine their requirements and procedures. Also, many states and some associations provide regular training schools for judges. Contact the Cooperative Extension Service and horse associations for schools in your area.
