What preventative disease vaccines are commonly administered to the elderly and how often are they needed?

Pneumonia and influenza together represent the fifth leading cause of death in older adults. There are vaccines to help prevent both of these diseases. Other important vaccinations administered to older adults include tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). For certain individuals, hepatitis “A” and “B,” varicella (chicken pox), and meningitis vaccinations may be of benefit.
