Our home sustained damage during a recent hurricane. Before my care receiver and I can move back into the house, repairs need to be made. What should I be looking for in a contractor?

In addition to repairing the damage done to your home, now is a good time to think about any features that might need to be added to make it more accessible and supportive of both your abilities and that of your care receiver. These may include adding a ramp, widening doorways, and installing grab bars.

When hiring a contractor, you should evaluate his or her expertise, collect written estimates and get details of the work to be performed in writing. For more information, visit http://www.extension.org/pages/Making_Home_Repairs_After_a_Disaster.
