Turbidity is the measure of the clarity of water. Suspended sediments and dissolved substances in water can affect how much light can pass through the water. If the water is holding a significant amount of suspended and dissolved material, it will become murky or cloudy. This material absorbs or reflects light, preventing it from passing through the water.
