Can you use whole or ground soybeans in your ration for a protein? This is for weaned calves.

You can feed whole or cracked soybeans in a calf ration as a source of protein. Introduce the soybeans into the ration at 10% of the ration on a dry matter basis. In most calf rations, you would likely meet the protein needs at this level. I wouldn't not recommend much over 12% of the ration on a dry matter basis to be whole or cracked beans. If the calves begin to scour, reduce the amount in the ration. Soybeans will be 35 to 40% crude protein. It is recommended not to include urea in a ration that has whole or cracked soybeans.
