Unfortunately, there is no free money. Starting a business requires that you develop a business plan and work with a financial institution or venture capitalist for financing. Sometimes, the Small Business Administration will work with your local lending institution to help you secure funding for your enterprise.

Sometimes, grant funds may be used to recover staff or personal time required to research and prepare the application. It is always best to have a plan and to look for supplemental dollars to implement it rather than chasing dollars that may take you in the wrong direction. There are a variety of publications and Web sites dealing with grant seeking. A place to begin your search is at Grants.gov.
