Weanlings should be fed at a ratio of 70:30% hay to concentrate. Total daily intake for a weanling expected to have a mature weight of 1100 lbs is 2 to 3% of their body weight. For example, if your weanling weighs 500 lbs then and consumes 3% of his body weight, then he would consume 15 lbs of feed per day. Therefore, using the ratio of 70:30 he would need to be fed 10.5 lbs of hay, or alafalfa cubes and 4.5 lbs of concentrate per day. This amount of feed would need to be divided into at least two feedings per day if not more.
