How do I treat a flexor tendon injury?

Related resource areas: Horses

View as web page

Tendon injuries can vary from mild to career ending for your horse. Tendons develop and remodel slowly, so you can expect a minimum of six months to a year for full recovery. Immediately after a tear, alternately cold and hot treatments are needed to reduce swelling and maintain the blood supply. The extent of the injury will dictate the treatment. Contact your veterinarian for an exact diagnosis and treatment.
