What can I do if my cotton field that I plan to stripper harvest has been hit by a late season hail storm?

This is a difficult management decision. If the field had adequate boll maturity before the hail event, then it is likely a good decision to apply harvest aids such as ethephon for boll opening, tank mixed with a PPO inhibitor product such as Aim, ET, Resource, or Blizzard. Another possible tank-mix defoliant could include Ginstar. Follow up application of a paraquat product such as Gramoxone Inteon or Firestorm will also likely be required. There will be other challenges encountered. For a Texas Cooperative Extension publication on this click here .
