I want to become a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Maine. What do I have to do?

Contact the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for information, or visit their Web site (Becoming a Rehabilitator).

For other states, contact your appropriate state wildlife agency. You will need special permits for handling most species of birds and mammals.

Try volunteering with an existing rehabilitation clinic before starting off on your own. You'll probably need references in your application for the license.
