Grasses blend beautifully in a perennial bed, and with careful planning and selection maintenance can be quite minimal. In selecting a particular variety consider the plant's mature height, color, texture, water and light requirements. But most important is growth habit. Grasses spread themselves either through creeping roots or an abundance of seeds, so choose the grass variety that is easiest for you to control. In xeriscape gardens try Indian grass, Little bluestem or Prairie dropseed. For moderately moist gardens consider Feather reed grass, Japanese blood grass or Moor grass.
