FAQ #344

Will feeding my horse a cup of white vinegar with his feed help repel flies, or will it cause more adverse reactions?

Related resource areas: Horses

Adding a cup of white vinegar to your horse's feed will not cause any digestive disturbances or other metabolic problems. There is no scientific evidence that feeding vinegar will help to repel flies from horses. We have had some success in adding vinegar to fly repellents at about a 10% rate by volume if the current repellent you are using does not seem to be as effective. The vinegar may be more effective in this manner than feeding to repel flies.
