How can I prevent my cattle from developing acute bovine pulmonary emphysema (fog fever)?

Related resource areas: Beef Cattle

There are several different things to help prevent your cattle from developing fog fever such as avoiding a sudden change from a low to a high plane of nutrition (lush pasture). You can place the cattle on a transition diet for two to three weeks when changing from a low to a high plane of nutrition. If you have to put the cattle on lush pastures, it is wise to feed two to three pounds of poor-quality hay or straw to supplement their dietary intake.
