Fortunately the emerald ash borer is not thought to be in Colorado. It is known in Michigan, Ohio and Maryland, but not in Colorado. The High Plains form a natural barrier to its spread into the state. If it comes to Colorado it will be because someone carried the insect in on infested nursery stock or logs. There are several borers that have been present in the state for a long time. The most common is the lilac-ash borer. The redheaded ash borer, banded ash borer and ash bark beetles are also present, but none of these is as damaging as the emerald ash borer.
