How can I prevent grass tetany (Hypomagnesemia) from affecting my herd?

Related resource areas: Beef Cattle

View as web page

Lactating cows eating forages that predispose them to grass tetany must be supplemented with a mineral mixture that contains high concentration (8-10 percent) of magnesium, usually magnesium oxide. There is evidence that high intakes of potassium can interact with Mg uptake, so check the mineral for K(potassium) also.
