Affected cattle become hyper, belligerent, develop muscle tremors and ear twitches, and stagger. In the later stages of the disease, the cattle become recumbent, exhibit seizures and usually die within the hour. Cattle grazing cool-season grass pastures or small-grain pastures at, or shortly after, a change in weather that effects growing conditions are susceptible to grass tetany.
