You can remove the trees newly infested with pine beetle at any time. If you cut them now and lay them in the sun for the next few months, they can sufficiently dry to kill the larvae. To do this correctly, lay the trees in full sunlight and every one to two months, turn the logs a quarter turn so that all four sides of the tree will have one to two months of full sunlight over the next few months.
If your property receives too much snow to allow the trees to get the solar treatment, you can try one of the following treatments:
1) Remove all of the bark from the attacked portion of the tree. This will cause the larvae to dry out and die.
2) Remove the wood from your property and take to a location that is at least 1 mile from any pine trees.
