I live in Colorado, and my tomato plants are getting very tall. They are putting out a lot of green tomatoes but seem to be slow to ripen. What should I do?

It sounds like you have overwatered or have too much nitrogen available to the plant. Cutting back on the water will help force the tomatoes to ripen but will also increase cracking and blossom end rot of the fruit. (For more information on blossom end rot, go to http://www.coopext.colostate.edu/TRA/PLANTS/blendrot.html .) However, you might not have a choice if you expect to have ripe tomatoes this year. I would suggest you cut back on the watering and see what happens. A soil test to determine what the nutrient level is in the soil will help prevent this problem with next year's crop.
