FAQ #36160

I have tons of seedpods on my Love-in-the-Mist plants. Should I let them be or remove them?

Love-in-the-Mist (Nigella damascena) is a self-seeding annual. If pods are left on the plants, seedlings will sprout in spring and can become invasive. The seedlings are easy to recognize and can be thinned or eliminated. It will be more difficult to control seedlings in large beds or beds with numerous perennial plants. Harvested seedpods can be dried and the seeds used the following year. Seedpods are also used in everlasting arrangements.
